The BHGS Challenge - Oxford running over the weekend of 5th-6th April just before Easter on the Wheatley Campus of Oxford Brookes University just outside Oxford.

The BHGS Challenge is our second largest tournament of the year, with a 5-round (3 + 2 Sat/Sun) "open" FoGAM competition. Online booking is now open with an entry fee of £30.

Based on current bookings, currently FoGAM is twice as popular as DBMM, and is the 2nd most popular period overall (just one booking behind the current leader FoG:R)

FoGAM is still one booking behind FoG:R, but is really stretching the lead over DBMM....

Don't worry, I'll soon put a stop to that.

Are we to be graced with your presence then Dave?

He's still not put his hand in his pocket -maybe its a bluff?

We are now up to 17 players without the addition of Dave, which at this rate is set to exceed the 26 from last year. Maybe we should encourage him not to enter early more often... ?

Most definitely. After all those elephants took me up the arse last year how could I refuse?

I've even put my virtual hand in my virtual pocket and paid.

Up to 20 now... biggest single period at the moment.

new additions:

Lynda Fairhurst
Keith Pullen
steve brown
david bannister
Dave Ruddock
Jon Akers

Always nice to see that 1990's "the guardian" style typography coming back into fashion as well, with a number of the newer players going for the "lower case" versions of their names on the entry form this time around.

Numbers are building nicely, but please can you get your entries in a.s.a.p. as we have to book the tables etc so we need to know how many players to expect.

The venue will be available to us from the Friday 4th April from about 4pm, when we will start putting up tables and clothing up, and will then be open until late for pre-tournament practice, fun and frivolity. In past years, as well as the usual friendlies and camaraderie, we have had large-scale games (an 8-hander refight of Chalons, for example), demos (introduction to FOG N) and mini tournaments (DBMM100). I am delighted to be able to say that Chris Hanley will be coming on the Friday with his ever-popular "Biggles Flies Unzipped", which is a highlight of my wargaming year, and makes running the event worthwhile all on its own. :o)

Oh, and just to confirm, there's plenty of parking!

Cheers,

Tim Child

I could bring Pony Wars for Friday if anyone is up for it.

Multiplayer cowboys and Injuns. Anything from 1 to 10 players, the 7th Cav getting wiped out or having reinforcements as it progresses

As the dress regs stand I'm not too keen on starting before 4pm though

Hi Phil,

Sounds good fun.

Whilst generally encouraging suitable role-playing in wargaming, for the sake of those of a weak stomach I hope that the "Injuns" will be at least loin-clothed...

I've had some queries about food at Challenge this year.

The venue is open late, but unlike previous years we aren't allowed to provide a buffet for you. You can bring your own food and drink. However, we have booked the Starbucks in the building opposite ours, so coffee etc, snacks and sandwiches will be available from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm (possibly later?) and 8.30 to 2.30 Sunday. There is a cost to us if there isn't a minimum sales level, so please do avail yourself of teas, coffees, sandwiches and all the rest from there.

David Fairhurst (who as the local lad has been lead contact with Oxford Brooks this year - much appreciation is due) has also suggested to them that it may be a good idea for them to come over and provide a waiter service. No idea whether they'll be able to do it, but it would be nice if it happens!

Cheers,

Tim Child

P.S. Congratulations to FOG:AM, the largest single competition, 50% bigger than FOG R or DBMM. However, we do have an odd number (33). Please work on your mates and let's get an odd number of further entrants to ensure no byes!

Odd numbers in AM won't be an issue, I should be able to fill that space, I could do with a game I don't think I have any competitive games until Roll Call and havn't played since Warfare so I'm getting withdrawal symptoms.
Besides its my turn to play Tim :D

We are odd in DBMM too (take that how you like, folks... ), so we might both be playing. Shouldn't be a problem, as my DBMM army (and playing style!) will be aimed at no more than 2-2.5 hours - and then "collapse of stout party" (to quote the probably apocryphal Punch punchline).
