Can a general leave a unit when it is in combat? This could happen if you've been caught by a pursuit which will be fought in the next turn after maneuver?

There seem to be no restrictions on generals leaving combat anywhere (unlike in FoG-AM where it is explicitly not allowed). So, I would say that generals can leave combat in their own movement phase (if not moved in the assault phase) or in either player's recovery phase.

true it is not covered but should probably be commented on by an author. My personal choice would be to say no. Once committed you stay for the duration, and with most melees only lasting one turn it is not a major issue here.

As above, there is no mention or restrictions on movement of commanders.

Certainly nothing in the rules on this - It's very rare for a combat to last 2 rounds.
My initial reaction is to not allow it at all.

Further thoughts are that the commander would be difficult to reach with orders, therefore no CPs could be allocated to a commander in combat from the CC.
Additionally, the unit he was 'leading' may think they were being abandoned by their commander, and should therefore take an immediate CT if he leaves.

However, for the number of times it's likely to happen, just banning him from leaving the combat is the easiest solution.
