Very Short Campaign?

I'm a little confused. I did the tutorial and then advanced to the Roman Campaigns. I went through them and at around the 30th battle or so, it won't let me continue. I believe it to be the end of the Civil War after Caesar's death but not sure. Given that's something like 40BC, what happened to the remaining 400 odd years of Great Battles of Rome? Looking through the files it looks like there are over 100 scenario's set up but I can't get by 30!! The manual makes no mention whatsoever of when the game is supposed to end.
The manual also references Fame as an indicator of how well you do but if I've somehow finished the game, how come my fame score isn't recorded anywhere? If I have somehow finished this short game, it seems absurd that the last thing it does is ask you to start a new campaign. At least it isn't just a blank cursor like the old Zork game but it's no more satisfying to be sure. I have no impetus to pick this up again.
Am I missing something?
