Hello all,

The latest update for SPM is now available. During the rest of the year (and possibly the first couple of weeks into 2014 as well), the updates will be available for you to download directly from the Matrix FTP: ftp://beta.matrixgames.com . When prompted, please specify the following username and password: SPMBetaTester/SpmBeta1114.

Inside the FTP you will find a rar file, just download it and overwrite your current installation with its contents. Notice that you need to have updated to SPM 0.7.8 first in order for it to work properly.

We made this decision of switching to the FTP mostly because of the following two reasons:

1) The size of the last two patches was over 1.25 GB. Since we always provide comprehensive update files, sticking to the old method would have meant yet another 1.25 GB download this week. The new file is around 360 MB, so you will be able to grab the update a lot quicker
2) It allows me to upload patches during the rest of the year without having to wait for Matrix to resume activities after the Christmas break, which will start next Friday.

About the update itself, we have included some bugfixes and lots of new gameplay mechanics related to personnel and personnel management, including retirement, morale, paycuts/payrises and advanced training. You can find the full changelog here.

I downloaded the zip file unzipped it and placed the files over the present 0.7.8 program. But when running the game it still shows 0.7.8 on the beginning screen and the upgrade building page is still blank. Did I miss something in the update?

It should display 0.7.9 on your screen. Sanity check: did winrar prompted you to overwrite existing files? It should have done so.

Same thing--CRC error

Have used both selections when RAR in operation. RAR selection box says either "Extract and update files" or "Extract and replace files". Have selected both in different downloads but game still shows old version and blank white screens for building construction or upgrade after update and opening it up.

Hello all,

To all of you who are getting the CRC error, please uninstall the game, then reinstall it and make sure that:

1) You have upgraded to SPM v 0.7.8.
2) Extract the contents of the rar file from SPM v 0.7.9 and overwrite the contents of SPM v. 0.7.8. The rar file contains the minimum you need in order to upgrade from 0.7.8 to 0.7.9, it's not a stand-alone product.

I have downloaded 0.7.9 numerous times with RAR and extracted it into the game. I see the files being installed. However upon running the game I still see the old version and no changes such as blank building screens.

...no joy....it still does not work

To both doc99 and cptbill911,

When you extracted the rar, did it prompt you to overwrite existing files? If it didn't, it means that the files were not extracted into the right directory. Let me know if it did so that we can continue with the troubleshooting process.

I looked inside the program before attempting the update 0.7.9 and then after. I found RAR did not over write the files but placed them within the program with the main file. What I found was the update file inside the program instead of updating and/or overwriting the older files. RAR just says it is extracting and you see the files being extracted and installed but never updating or overwriting even with the selections from the RAR main screen. I removed the program and re-installed it along with the 0.7.8 update, looked at the files then applied the 0.7.9 update with RAR.

I'm quite sure the problem is that the 0.7.8 files are not being overwritten with the ones from 0.7.9. The other solution I can think of is for you to extract 0.7.9 into a separate folder (e.g., in your desktop) and then just cut and paste the contents of that folder into your installation directory, so that Windows overwrites them.

Let me know if you still can't make it work.

When I did that it ,it did not recognize the change and effectively, nothing happened

OK, let's try a different approach in here. Let's say you uncompress the contents of the rar file from 0.7.9 in a folder somewhere in your desktop. You open up that folder in Windows Explorer, you must see SPM-Windows.exe and the SPM-Windows_Data folder. Then you open another the SPM installation directory in another instance from Windows Explorer. Can you you try moving the SPM-Windows.exe file from the 0.7.9 folder into the installation directory? Windows should definitely prompt you whether you want to overwrite the file. Let me know if it doesn't.

I did as you suggested and with a bit of effort it finally worked. The problem I ran into was that I had to copy and paste the files numerous times before they would be overwritten into the 0.7.8 version. I played around with it and the files finally updated using the Windows procedure. It would not take the first couple of times and had to go over several files several times before they took. It will work as you stated you just have to be persistent and wait for the box to quiz you on replacing the file.

...ok that worked...but Ignacio: its too labor intensive......there has to be a clean and stream-lined way to patch or it will turn-off a lot of people
