squares after combat

We almost had an odd situation in our last game where an Austrian square was attacked by both cavalry and infantry. Fortunately I recalled that the Frogs had tested to charge their disorderd infantry but had failed to test to see if they could also charge a target that was being attacked by cavalry, only it was after we had rolled combat dice and the French were kind enough
to take the test which they failed so we did the whole charge thing again properly with only the cav coming in.
However getting back on to the topic here... the original combat result had the square dropping to wavering. Since it was contacted by cavalry I thought the outcome should be halt. The French felt that the infantry otherwise line should be used since it was a square in contact with infantry too.
In a case like this that we should have gotten right in the first place what is the outcome move?
Does the contact with cavalry take precedence or does the square have to react to the infantry as otherwise and make an outcome move?
