Fans of People's General or games of a sort, might have missed out on Advanced Tactics Gold.
This game evolved out of People's Tactics. It has post war situations in a quasi historical environment ie not obsessed over directly simulating specific events.
If you miss the Panzer General experience, you might be interested to know, that PGForever (that is the identity it goes by) is out there, is basically Panzer General and Allied General rebuilt to be one program, and it runs in Windows 8 without argument. It's free, and the chap that made PGForever was essentially involved with the making of Panzer Corps. It's not the same of course. It's like comparing Squad Leader and ASL. The same but one if clearly so much more.
There are other releases out there, that have tried to do the Panzer General look, and I think over all. mostly come in as a somewhat disappointing attempt. I have one, I'd mention it, but, I don't think I'd be doing you any real favour. I could mention Panzer General 2 is marketed by GoG.com, and it functions correctly in today's Windows world too. But again, while it works, it looks like the older game it is too now.
