Muddy ground and retreat on river

Now I'm playing Kharkov42 scenario of the GC '42. On the first turn ground is muddy, and in-game description says that even minor rivers can be crossed by bridges or bridge engineers only. But attacking russian infantry definitely CAN cross rivers as usual, and I just made BA-64 retreat onto a river hex. What's wrong?

Nothing wrong here. You Can cross a minor river by moving adjacent to it in one turn, then moving onto it the next turn. When rivers are frozen, movement over them is free.

In-game description of muddy ground condition clearly states that 'even minor rivers can no longer be crossed, unless there is a bridge or bridge engineer unit on the river'. And, as I mentioned before, the ground was definitely muddy.

The description must be wrong. Muddy ground condition didn't prevent crossing minor rivers in any game that I remember.

So will a moderator move this topic to a tech support subforum 'cause it's definitely a bug mentioned here?.. If Razz1 would do that, he can also tell us all about his magic unit library.

Magic unit library?! Nobody ever tells me anything...

But joking aside, I've moved it to the 'Open beta' section, as the Tech support is for, well, technical issues, and the more general bugs and errors are dumped in here I believe.

BloodCat, thanks for reporting (BTW, how's the weather in Arulco? :) ). I had to search a while before I stumbled upon the in-game info you are referring to, it's the tutorial messages, right? Because one of those says:

"Bad ground condition

This is the first time you encounter bad ground conditions. The ground becomes muddy after several turns of rain, and frozen after persistent snow. Both conditions have dramatic effects on a unit’s movement. Usually units move more slowly, consume more fuel and crossing rivers becomes impossible in mud. However in some cases the weather can help - frozen rivers are not a barrier and can be crossed without penalty making offensives easier.

That's just me poking Razz1 for his answer in unit info thread.

Hot and dry and awesome, thanks for askin'. Looks like some wild life fund started to send us additional food by choppers. Tasty, though the food is equipped with boomsticks and wrapped in some kind of semi-shells.

Not only in the tutorial. Any time in the game you can click the current/predicted weather icon located near the turn/date/prestige counters and get a description for ground and weather conditions -- and if it's muddy you'll see a description mentioning troubles with river crossings. And it really makes sense for me, cause muddy ground is the result of continuous raining, which will cause river overflow and make them much harder to cross. Infantry and, maybe, some light ATGs can cross the rivers in such conditions using makeshift rafts, but towed arty, tanks and vehicles would have to wait for dedicated bridge engineering units.
