Resigning All of My Games ...

To my MP Opponents: finally through with this game for now. After so many times where I have less units than my opponent and where he is winning 2x of the unit vs. unit melees (front vs. front - not complaining about flank attacks on my troops) I have had it with trying to figure the game out.

If both sides have the same amount of points then there should be an even chance that both sides will win. Well lets say no worse than 55-45.

But when I attack the REAR of a unit with two units, attack in frontally with others and it takes NINE attacks to beat it into the ground something is terribly wrong.

This was a LC unit folks! A lousy bow armed horse archer unit.

Then my Super Heavy Knights, Superior Drilled failed to beat LC face to face ... again something wrong.

I wish that the percentage that is shown for melees would be done away with in the FoG update. It is worthless to go by and deceives people into thinking that they have a better than average chance of winning when they see 60/40 or even 70/30. Anytime now that I see a better percentage for my unit I figure that means it will lose.

Even going by the breakdown doesn't work because both sides are rolling the same die.

What we need is for LC to roll a d10 and make their chance of inflicting a hit something like a 9 or 10. A super heavy knight should be a d6 with 5 and 6 hitting. Same with LI units (as per LC).

LI should be able to break off. Seeing super heaving infantry pin down a LI unit is ludicrous past the first melee.

Will check back when the update is done and will evaluate the game then. Hopefully the combat system will have been corrected and all of this is done away with.

Its a shame as I REALLY like the game. It is not a case of "I am losing so I am pissed." It is a case of time after time ALL of us are getting hammered and our units stay in melees with crap troops for 4 rounds so that our flanks/rear can get hit. Its not fair to anyone that plays the game.

I've only had the game for a couple of months and have to agree with what you say about the dice rolls.I've had games where the lucks been on my side and i've felt for my opponent where i've had a flank that should be non-existent,four turns later it's still there. Then there have been games where i've had the upper hand against weaker units and they've crumbled. The dice gods can be very fickle.

My main point though, yup we all know the game has it's flaws and yup i play to win.The result doesn't really bother me though,i just enjoy playing it.So long as my arse isn't kicked into touch from the word go(i've had a few of those :) ) and i give a good account of myself i'm happy with that. The game is simple to play, and once you get used to the game mechanics it's quite fun and into the bargain the community is very friendly and the server is great,no sending emails and such.

I'm very new to the game and i now know all the flaws,i wouldn't let the game mechanics put me off though, the game is really enjoyable. This is just my opinion as a noob, everyone to their own at the end of the day.

Good comments. I agree that we play to win and that we hate seeing a great strategy turned to nothing time and time again. When you pull off a great flank attack, move your units correctly to hit flanks and so on, and get beat three times something is wrong with the system. My feeling has always been to reward great play with great results. LUCK should NOT play as MUCH of a factor in that case.

Thus if you slam into the flank of a Disrupted unit with Heavy Cavalry you SHOULD Fragment or ROUT the enemy player's unit.

Another thing I am still seeing is a FRESH unit that attacks get Fragmented. This should not be happening. The worst that any FRESH unit should get as an adverse result is to go from Steady to Disrupted. Never Fragmented.

After that all bets are off ... ;)

You are failing to factor in player skill/experience. By your logic, I should have beaten ericdoman1 50% of the times I've played him (55-45%). I have beaten ericdoman1 0% of the times I've played him - when he's played with equal points, anyway! :D

Well in that case I should have won all THREE of my ambush games then! Thanks!

The only thing that REALLY bothers me, is that skirmishers and light cavalry and other type of dirt units bear same amount of points as infantry and medium/heavy cavalrly. When you are attacking, there is NO way to play safe with them, which always ends up in me having 20/50 points already without main body of my army actually seeing combat. So first melee and battle is already done - with me loosing obviously, because first ranks have broken.
