Have souls out there been using cavalry attachments much? For certain troops (like conscripts)? Versus certain types of enemy?

I take as many as I can! I use them with:
1. Any unreformed infantry - gives them a better chance to close.
2. Light infantry - really ensures you win the skirmish fight.
3. Large conscript infantry - as you seriously don't want to try and take CTs with them, so try to reduce the maximum number of hits as possible.
At 6 points they are excellent value.

I haven't used them in the past since the Austrians either had artillery attachments (no reduction) or rifle skirmishers (only 1 reduction), but now that Dead. is running Russians as well, I thought I might try them out. Esp. since I found a box of dragoons I didn't know I had!!!!! Plus I thought I'd run those large conscript units since I can have 4 charismatic commanders in the 1812 army!

In my 1815 Prussian army I have two large Average Conscript infantry each with artillery and cavalry attachments. So far they have never broken and have actually come off the better in the skirmish fight because of the small number of firing dice coming at them. I always have them rear supported and a charismatic general is always hovering around. It's a nice feeling to throw 3 dice for a CT with them!

I've often thought that a cavalry attachment to a large unreformed unit might make it practicable to use extended line.
The major disadvantage of extended lines in my view is that they tend to recieve incoming medium range fire from multiple enemy units.
A cavalry attachment to an extended line would drop 2 dice off each enemy unit firing skirnishers at it - effectively multiplying the value of the attachment - and hopefully allowing the Austrian unit to avoid being shot to ribbons at medium range.
never tried this idea on tabletop however...

That's one of the reasons why my large Landwehr don't break. I've had 3 Froggy units skirmishing at one of them and there were only 3 dice rolled against it needing all to hit for a cohesion loss.
With the amount of Light Infantry around, it's a given to load up on cavalry attachments to reduce the skirmishing dice.
