Elephants turning

Just a little query that came up at Clevedon (an excellently organised and catered competition. Many thanks to all responsible and to those who turned up and had fun)

Because in 25mm they're on 80mm deep bases a line of elephants will turn as a two wide line (good) but will a column of elephants be unable to turn because they cannot achieve the minimum width of 160mm? (bad)
Page 20, Truning 90 Degrees

The new front edge must consist of the minimum number of bases so that the width of the turned group is at least as wide as it was deep before turning
Obviously silly but I ask because of the ruling previously given in the Battle Wagons Turning thread.

Definitely not silly, this is something that needs clearing up.

My own preference would be to not allow the turn. It is an anomally for the 25mm elephants, but I would prefer one known anomally than adding further rules.

Looking from the other angle, if the elephants start side by side then they will end up side by side after a turn, to make the 80mm+ width. I think the 25mm elephants are winners over the 15mm ones who can always turn, but go from line to column.

I think it would be wrong to prohibit them from turning.

So either you write a special amendement that they go to column or they do get the added advantage of turning to being facing two to the side.
