Suggestion for the UI

I have a suggestion that could improve both PC and iPad user interface.
It would be nice if we had shortcuts that leads us directly to the windows we want to access. Something like this : i move my mouse pointer to the left edge of the screen and a series of tabs leading to all available windows slide in. Same could be achieved on the iPad by swapping a finger from the edge of the screen inward like for the notifications tab.
What do you guys think ?
