First impression + a few hours

5 min - Everything is great, install is easy and I really like the opening movie. I use the default world setting and the first turns are easy and intuitive.
30 min - A few turns in, I make contact with other factions. They do not seem to like me too much.
1 hr - City wiped out by the zealots...time to start again.
After a few new games and a few hours, The game feels more like the Civ series and less like Alpha Centuri, which is a disappointment for me.
Some problems I had:
The AI is much better at building it's army and cities, than I am.
The AI reached the mechanical age before I was even close.
Units are weak vs native life.
Research--build structure---build unit method, seemed to allow the unit to become obsolete due to research advancing so quickly.
That being said, I still look forward to this game and also any input as to what I can do to make it more like my beloved AC
