Can units be forced to retire from Villages by Shooting?

Can units be routed by close range fire when in villages?

• A unit defending a building will not retire from the building unless it is broken.
• A unit defending a building will not retire as an outcome move unless it is broken.
So you do not get driven from the building by an outcome move.
If you are broken, you do vacate.

I think you are discussing medium or long range fire on a unit in a building that is already wavering.

No you do not drop to broken and you do not take an outcome move.

A unit shot close range can always be broken from shooting as if it were in open. So yes you can break an enemy and force them to rout from a building if within 2 mu.

same with redoubts/field fortifications?

Do you retire as outcome move for shooting or only when routed?

only when routing, so you have to break the defenders to drive them off. Makes it very hard to get them out some times. if you have to clear out an enemy I would suggest at least 2 or 3 units shooting at 1 enemy defending. If you go in at 1 to 1 you will likely lose or it will take forever (the entire game perhaps) to get them out.
