Evading from a double charge

I played a game last night where a BG of cavalry was charged by two BG's of knights. One charge came from the flank and the other from in front.

According to the changes from V6.0 document it would seem that this is what should happen:

Initial possition, the top BG of knights failed a CMT and is about to burst through the light foot (which is why they are FRG)

The top knights move 4 MU, the flanking knights move 2 MU and the cavalry move 5 MU. As they are starting a good three MU from the knights with the highest move you might think they are OK but.....

They have to wheel to split the direction of the two charges and only move 5 MU thus:

Which means that the knights starting 3 MU or so away manage to catch the cavalry that should be moving 5 MU thus:

Is this right?

Is this what is desired??

For the sake of having a clear and unequivocal method of carrying out evades, yes.

Think of it as some of the men dithering being unable to decide which way to run. It may seem odd which bases get caught, but it is not odd that some do. So the end result is a reasonable reflection of the dangers of trying to evade charges from two directions.

Fair enough, it is after all what the rules say.

Note to self: don't let something charge the front an flank of a 4 wide cavalry BG, it will almost certainly get caught.

Why do the flanking Kn only move 2MU and not 4MU? Are they starting in some terrain that we cannot see?

I was assuming they threw a 1 on their VMD dice.

Great photos Hammy!

Is there an easy way to do this for those of us who are not technically gifted?

Pete, this sort of diagrams are really easy to do using Powerpoint and then you can just save them as an image. Maybe a bit technical I guess! If there any diagrams you want to make, then send me a description of it and I'll try to sort them out.
