Where are the links to the patches

Greetings from Poland. I bought your game today and I'm very excited about it. I have only one request. where can i download the patches for this game. I searched the forum, registered the key and my account, but unfortunately I can not find any links to patches (v0.7.1 and v0.7.2). I bought the game on Matrix Games, but they have version 0.70. Sorry for my english  - it is bad - but I think that you somehow understand me.

I am still running 0.70. What makes you think there have been patches released already?

Hello krgu48,

Welcome to the forums! Don't worry, I can understand your English perfectly.

The patches have not been uploaded yet, the plan is to upload them tomorrow. Once that happens, you will be able to get the update -version 0.7.3- from the game launcher itself.

Cheers,

Ah, had not read that yet.

As I read that, I think Internal means 0.71 and 0.72 have been an update for their own developers, and we can expect the 1st public update tomorrow.

If not someone from Slitherine can correct me :)

Greets, DWilem

Edit: I am slow :)

Thanks for the quick response Nacho84 and DWillem. I'll wait until tomorrow.

Will the patches be available as separate downloads? I want to be able to preserve each public release for my own archival backup. If I update BASPM through the update utility from 0.7.0 to 0.7.3, and then update it again later on from 0.7.3 to [whatever the next public version is], then I won't have a way to get back to 0.7.3. Whereas if I have a local copy of the 0.7.3 patch, then I can re-install my 0.7.0 core distribution and then apply the 0.7.3 patch to get back to that version.

Some of you won't understand why a person would ever want to go back, so I'll explain. As games/programs grow and take shape over the years, it can be very interesting to go back to earlier versions and show people what it use to look like during the development cycle / early days of the program. I didn't find out about Orbiter: Space Flight Simulator by Martin Schweiger until right after Orbiter 2010 came out. I found it absolutely fascinating to go all the way back to Orbiter "2001" (or whatever it was called) and check out each release to see how it matured over the years. (Also on the point of version preservation, some of the earliest releases of the Linux kernel are lost forever, much to the disappointment of archivists.)

The easiest way to do this is copy the installed folder before you apply the patch and name it by its version.

Thanks. I figured that would be an option, but it's not an attractive option since the installed directory is 2.5GB. I assume the patch will just replace the main binary executable and a few other files? That would mean that a downloadable patch would just be a few megabyte if it were distributed as a .zip file. Preserving a few megabytes per patch is a lot more efficient than preserving the entire 2.5GB installation directory. But it is what it is. Thanks again for the reply.

The patches will be stand alone installers - the auto updater just applies the patch to the game automatically.

I hope that developers will be able to send the patch to the end of weekend

I think that they got a bit overhelmed by the number of bugs... An hasty patch can cause other bugs, and usually piling small fixes is also a good way to create new problems, so let them a good week. Maybe they have released a bit early but independant studios have to fund themselves...
