I am not an experienced FOGN player.
I have made some lists that are based on the Army Lists included in the main rule book.
Would these lists be valid for a tournament?
Or should I only pick a list from the dedicated army list books?

For tournaments in New Zealand, no. You'ld need to get get hold of Triumph of Nations for 1809-15 armies, or Emperors and Eagles for earlier and all peninsula lists.
