Future game development

Now Pip I know this isn't a general Slitherine forum but I have an idea for a game, and have searched and searched as I really want one.....

Something along the lines of Battle academy combined with real world GPS.

In other words a type of command and conquer that uses a real time real world map, where you start as your gps location but build bases and create units e.g tanks troops etc to send out to war.

There are a couple of gps games out there - turf wars, etc. but one that combine armed forces in a real world environment.......

2 questions, would it be possible to port over the BA graphics engine to a real world MMO environment, and second would Slitherine consider creating something like this.

Well, it sounds like a pretty large concept :) That said, I'm not sure I understand exactly the gameplay premise.

Well in the standard GPS mmo's its all about making a base, gps hopping then make another base, it would be good to have a game where you build your bq on your gps location, some sort of resource gathering to build military units, send them out into a real world map. Basically conquer with smaller forces or amass a huge army for all out campaigns

Think civilisation in a real world MMO but with mobile units and battling as in Battle Academy, there could be different version where you are in different historical eras..........

It would be a massive undertaking but it would be a massively popular game.

So you would have to physically move around to build bases? It's not a gameplay concept I've heard of I must confess! :)

It would indeed be a massive undertaking - the game sounds like it would only have a very nodding crossover with BA. The graphics engine is generally only a small proportion of the work needed to get a game made.

So from your experience how would someone go about getting a game created, if that someone has no previous coding experience.

In all honesty: they wouldn't :). If your plan is to learn some coding and take a crack at it yourself, then there hasn't been a better time, that is for sure. The tools have never been easier to use, and the amount of online teaching material is very impressive. But you would want to start on something small and self-contained initially. Actually finishing something is the biggest hurdle for most would-be developers.
