I am trying to initiate a tcp/ip game either joining one or hosting... one problem is that CEAW has picked up my LAN address for the hosting of game and I can't change this to my true ip address... when i try to join a game someone else is hosting ... after about 1 minute the game drops back to the main menu screen... any help??

Are you behind a NAT firewall? If this is the case you will be able to join games but not host them.

Your true external address exist you just need to find it. try
