I have the impression that these are fielded very infrequently. Are they another troop type that may need a bit of a look at?

One of my regular opponents uses Late TYW German and always takes 2 light guns as the least expensive option as he reckons he can't hit anything with guns anyway but other than that I've never seen them used. I would suggest that the range is the issue. IF the consensus is that they need looking at, incease range to 12mu.

I will always buy Heavies if available (due to the range) and only buy Light Artillery if it's compulsory. A longer range would certainly make me reconsider that.

I have used them quite a few times and found them extremely useful.

I think this is not an area that needs works. I started buying the ligth guns to save points, but found them manuverable and of value.

I like to use them with my Scots. Even cheaper as poor.
twin them up with some bow toting highlanders.
They are only there for the extra -1 on reaction tests.
The hope is that the bow and artillery combined do enough to generate a test with a -1 possibly -2 if very lucky.
Then charge in with the impact foot.

Alternatively I have left gaps in my P%S units for it to shoot through again combined with the shooting from the shot, the additional -1 tipping the luck variable.

In my Early Polish army, I stick them with the xbow/ls MF or even behind fortifications to block or delay a flank.

I just like them and always find a use for them.

The extra -1 is a big deal. Its not the dice. And I forget but essentially FOGR allows key hole shooting. Both shooters front corners trace to one point on target IIRC. So a small gap allows the gun to add a dice and a -1.

I use 2 light guns in my 'early' "Late Louis XIV" army. My reasons, I'm using an aggressive army that wants to get stuck in. I really don't want to take ANY artillery, but it's compulsory... so I'll take 24 points rather than 40 points and use the extra 16 points elsewhere.

I found that the light guns were useful in MOAB. They were 'kinda there with a chance of doing something but I didn't waste many points on them so I'm not that bothered if they don't do anything'.

In many ways they 'get in the way' because I really can't use them and I try to when I should just put them in a corner and forget that they are there. That would also be true of Medium or Heavy guns.

I took light artillery once, and they didn't work for me. I used them in an Anglo-Dutch army, for similar reasons to the poster who used them in Louis XIV French.

The problem was that they've got to get quite close to be any use. And at that point you're really risking them.

I'm not too bothered about it. Any rule set underpowers something. And this is a relatively minor troop type.
