End of Year FoGR Rankings updated on the BHGS website.
Britcon 2013 is the only comp included this time but that gives us our end of year positions. Mr Harley is a well deserved winner but we have our first foreigner in the top 3 (unless you count RBS - he lives in Wales).

And forgot to mention, congratulations to Lynette on making the top 10 - possibly the first time we have had a lady in the top-10 of the FoGR rankings.

Thanks again Timmy for your work on these.
A huge congratulations to Alasdair on his top spot and amazingly his 100 score in the Rankings.
As Alasdair has won the two "biggies", Britcon and The Challenge (both I believe worth 120 points), plus he has won at least two other comps worth 100 each towards his 4 scoring comps, I suspect his real score is 110 making the gap between Alasdair and the rest of us actually even bigger!!! Also he has won all those comps in 2013, so there is no chance of his ranking changing at least till next April when the next Challenge is played! The rest of us are playing for 2nd place so I guess I can at least claim to be currently (note the use of the word "currently"), "The Best of the Rest"!!

No problem. I enjoy doing the rankings, it helps me keep in touch given how few comps I get to.
I will soon be posting a separate thread on how the rankings are derived (here and in other places) as the FoGR and FoG:AM methods are slightly different. However an explanation (cut-down) of how they are calculated the same might help.
Score is divided by 4. Best 4 comps count. Winning BHGS Britcon and BHGS Challenge are worth 120. Winning others are worth 80. So 100 is the maximum score.
However you are correct, Mr H. will be top with that perfect 100% score until April, no matter what (unless we change the weightings or how the rankings are derived...) as he won comps worth 80 in May and June 2013.
Next year the top players will have to ambush Mr. H. at the The Challenge if this is to change... You might have to buy him lots of beers...
(For example had you come runner-up at Britcon, rather than John, your score would have been 97 rather than 93, so he is not THAT far ahead.)

Thanks for the explanation Timmy.
Also interesting that winning say Roll Call or Warfare which are 4 games comps with c24+ players gets the same points as winning say a 1-day Southern Or Northern League comp with 2 games and 6+ players!
One question - are the scores from Britcon and "The Challenge" always kept I.e let's assume I played the Challenge and came last but won 4 other tournaments during the year, would my score be:-
1) 80 - I.e 4x80 divided by 4 as my best 4 scores
2) 60.25 - i.e 3x80 plus 1x1 (reflecting my last place at the challenge) divided by 4

The 1-day comps is where FoG:AM and FoGR differ, hence why I will be explaining the method.
No scores are kept (in rankings terms you do not have protected scores from the majors). So the answer would be 1 - 80.00.

Oh, and for what it is worth, each round of the Southern League has had more entrants than The Challenge had this year.

Maybe Roll Call and Warfare as the next two biggie tournaments should get 100 points as it is definitely harder to win those competitions over 4 games and which always attract a strong field rather than the 1-dayers, smaller events and Doubles.
Having won Warfare last year And the London round of the FOGR League I know what was the tougher! At Warfare I had to play Kevin J and Alasdair but in London, I was able to leapfrog Alasdair without playing him because it was only 2 games. Had there been a 3rd game I would have been playing Alasdair and we know how that would have ended!
At the end of the day the Rankings are for fun albeit that they do allow bragging rights, but we should try to get them as close as possible to the reality of the competition being played.

I will not comment further until I have posted on a separate thread. I do these on behalf of the BHGS so I hope you will understand why I have to obtain their concurrence for what I post (I also have to check that it is factually accurate).

well im just pleased, first full year in fogr and with the disaster at britcon, i still managed to creep up 2 places between july/august ... to finish 44th.

Have will to watch Byron as he has shot up to 54th... mmmm... i think i need to stop sub-ing his entry fees
Of course to tim/don who maintain the lists...
I like the idea of the main stream bhgs comps (warfare, "ascot" as i call it, rollcall and britcon) having a higher waiting over the 1 day-ers and doubles....

Personally I just think its amazing that what is traditionally a small period has rankings for 120 people this I think is testament to the quality of the rules and events like the Southern league as well as the well run BHGS competitions which have encouraged other players to play
Thank you to all people who have enabled this to happen
Cheers
Alasdair

There will certainly be a Clevedon round of the Southern League next year.

I should also like to point out that I do get help from the BHGS with publishing these and from Dave Rubbish who prepared the spreadsheet that I use (any errors are down to my poor data entry and process).

September rankings are almost ready, just clarifying some results and then they are good to go. This time for the first time we will have over 400 ranking scores (that is player / tournament combinations). We have had 400 before but that was including umpire weighting, this will be the first time with 400 counting scores ignoring umpire modifications.
