Cold Wars FoG event

Hello all:

I am planning to run the first FoG tournament in the US at the Cold Wars convention in March. Specifically, Cold War is scheduled for March 7-9, 2007 in Lancaster, PA. This will be just after the rules are officially published, so everyone will be a newbie. The field is wide open!

I need to get a rough head count of people interested in attending so that I can give the organizers an estimate of the number of tables required. Please let me know, either by a reply here, a PM, or offlist. The deadline from the Con organizers is fast approaching, so please be prompt.

The plan, at present, is for a 15mm, 650 point, open tournament. Any army from a then-published army list book will be allowed. If there is sufficient interest (expressed soon!) I will also run a 25mm event. We will most likely be scheduled for the Friday, which might create time constraints requiring a decrease in point levels. More news later as events develop.

EDIT: I changed the point total to 650 from 800, as we will be starting at noon on Friday. The rounds will therefore be three hours in length. I figure that, because we will all be newbies, smaller armies won't hurt.

Talk to me, people!

Oohhh!

I would definitely be in for this assuming I can make it down. If I knew the tournament was taking place I would do what I could to get there for sure.

I can play in 15mm if I had to, but I have more armies in 25mm (I was using them for WAB and Warrior), and would love to play in that scale if it gets offered.

I hereby assure you that the tournament will be taking place. 15mm for sure; 25mm depending on interest.

Marc;

Count me in. I can do a 15mm Teutonic army or 25mm Crusader army (both 650 pts). I may be able to bring another player with me as well.

Excellent! Will you let me know about the status of your friend as soon as you know? Of course, if the friend has to be a last minute decision that is fine too.

I look forward to seeing you there,

Marc

Ooops!! Just spotted the 'official announcement'. Looks like Rise of Rome and Storm of Arrows will be the books used for lists..........which means, I'll have to paint another army.........geesh, I hate that/..............."Honey, sorry, but I have to buy some more figures.........the guys are counting on me!" :D

Marc;

Since this is a Rise of Rome and Storm of Arrows tourney, are you planning on running 2 divisions, or will the armies from both books be played against each other (theoretically). Since Storm of Arrows is Late Medieval, and Rise of Rome is classical, just wondered how the tourney will be set up. I'll let you know about my buddy ASAP.

Dave:

The plan, at this time, is for the tournament to be an open, as opposed to a theme event. That is to say, armies from both books will be able to play against each other. I do not expect that attendence will be high enough this early in the FoG life-cycle to support a strictly themed event. Depending on how this tournament goes we may be able to have a theme event at Historicon.

Besides, I, for one, enjoy the notion of Romans fighting Medieval French, et cetera. Facing the widest variety of opponents keeps the game fresh.

Makes sense. Might have 2 guys interested in this, but they are both leaning towards wanting a 25mm tourney (they are ex-WAB players). I have a 25mm army too, but the armies are all over the board (First Crusade; Wallachian; Alexandrian Macedonian). Any thought to just an 'open' allowing armies from any of the published list books? I might be able to persuade them to borrow, or build a 15mm army if all else fails. Building a lot of aniticipation around here (KC) for FoG.

My notion of "Open" is that any army from any published FoG army list book will be allowed. If a player can bring the book to Cold Wars (to allow his opponent to take a gander at the list) then he can bring an army from that book. The more variety, the merrier!

As for 25mm, I have had limited interest so far, so it seems likely at this time that the tournament will be just 15mm. Perhaps there will be more enthusiasm for 25mm by the time Historicon rolls around.

You are probably right. I would guess more DBM types would give FoG a spin than WAB players at this point, and they are overwhelmingly 15mm players. I'll see if I can persuade the duo to paint up some of the wee lads.

I'll definitely be there, but I won't know whether I'll have a playable army for those time frames or not until I get the army lists. There's an early Imperial Roman 15mm army sitting in my attic waiting to see action, but I don't know how well it will fit the lists.

As I read the list of army books the Principate Roman (covering early imperial) will likely not be published by Cold Wars. Can your figures be squeezed into the late Republican list? If the answer is "mostly" you might very well be able to beg or borrow the remaining bases to make up an army from other people heading to the Con. I will most likely need to borrow a few bases to flesh out my army; I know it can be done.

Seleucid. It was my first DBM army (first miniatures army of any kind, in fact) way back in the day when DBM had just been published. It seems fitting to use it again for the beginning of FoG.

Ahhh.....good choice. Ironic. I'm going to try and do my first army for WRG 6th Edition..........Pyrrhic. 1979/1980........25mm Essex. All the troops looked like Jimmy Durante! :lol:
