corps commander forced to move with unit

In our game today my corps commander had joined a unit of cuirassier to rally them with his charismatic bonus. The cuirassier were disordered, and failed to rally with 4 dice. The French charged with a unit of Hussars, and I had to counter Charge. Blathergut insisted corps had to join in since he had joined the unit the previous turn and had not had a chance to leave the cuirassier yet.

Does a Corps commander have to charge if he joined to rally?

If he was with the unit, then he was with the unit unless he had time to move away in a phase he was allowed to move.

I believe when he charges he will also lose all his CPs.

CP loss is only for intercepts. This a reaction move, not a voluntary move. I had hoped he could have not risked his neck, but those are the chances of being charismatic l guess. I imagine his charisma within the army went up with that show of bravado.

This is one of the reasons i prefer not to have corps charisma he has to be with the unit for it to matter and attaching the corps to a unit cuts down range considerably. Also Corps has a harder time getting to routing units as they move slower.

I think this was the first time this happened in all our battles. Usually the units trying to regain cohesion are far from enemy but this time some French hussars pushed to the limit of their move!
