Just need a quick clarification here, I keep thinking that back in the spring some time Terry had posted that since horse can't shoot their attached artillery can no shoot, but can only be used during an assault. Is my brain going haywire or have the Frogs been tricking me by shooting their horses at me all this time

That's an artillery attachment at long range. It gets no dice because it has nothing to add to.

Hello,
I wanted to ask a similar question and thought this would be a good place to post it.
1. To clarify from the above, artillery attached to cavalry cannot shoot at long range, but at medium and short range they would fire with 2 dice?
2. My own question, can artillery attached to cavalry fire defensively in response to a charge while the cavalry countercharges, or do you have to choose between defensive fire and countercharging.
If counter charging and defensive fire are mutually exclusive, it seems as though there isn't any POA or advantage to countercharging so I would think it's beneficial for cavalry to stand and fire defensively with the artillery attachment.
Thanks in advance.

counter charging is not optional, I think the only exceptions are wavering units, units hit ion rear/flank. So generally unless you are already in bad trouble and firing would not help anyway (wavering you get 1 dice, flank/rear you get nothing).
So maybe a wavering cavalry units that passes it's CT for being charged while wavering gets to shoot with 1 dice. might be the only time a cavalry attachment could fire defensively.

Correct

You cannot both shoot and counter charge, although the artillery attachment will add a dice in combat which represents some support fire from the attached battery.
Cheers

I can't remembering this ever happening to me, but I guess it would be acceptable.

I had a wavering Russian dragoon with an artillery attachment fire defensively after it passed its CT test. After looking through all of the charge reactions we decided that it could fire. Got a hit on the charging French Chevaux-legere who didn't have a CP to press home the attack. Win!
