Does anyone else think that the devlopment tree is a bit random, you seem to jump from miltaristic, to economic, to environmental without any rationale reason. This tends to create a race which cant specialise.
I started initally with the scientific race, and wanted to dabble in to military just enough to keep others at bay, and then concentrate on science, and try to tech others into oblivion, but just found i had to choose tech advances I didnt want to to progress.
The tech advances seem to be all scattered, which detracted greatly from the game.

The Research tree is random for each new game.

Yeah, isn't that awesome?
It seems pretty random yes, but I'do suspect there is some underlying limitations to it.
But its great really, each game is a different path.

Well, its both good and bad. Good because there is a lack of predictability. Bad because at times the tech tree makes no sense, or that some vital technologies for your faction may be insanely hard to reach.
Again, its not so bad in single player, but would be be a big balancing issue in multi.

Ohh then the random starting position would be a big balancing issue at Multiplayer too

Note that all players have the same tech tree, it's just random per game. From our experience, multiplayer works best with a fully revealed tree (advanced options), since the randomness means games play out differently but players can plan their research further ahead. Since a lot of researchable entities in Pandora are tiered, it's fully viable and encouraged to skip some of them in order to gain access to certain key techs. We might increase the link density a bit further or make a setting for it, will see.
