Tech tree UI suggestions

Two suggestions for the tech tree.
1/ Suppose I have researched all techs from the first four columns, i.e. all the tech tree from the left from to bottom,
When I wan't to research a new tech it happens that the tech tree window still opens on the leftmost position, although all techs are allready researched. Would'nt it be better if the tech tree automatically position itself starting with the first undiscovered tech? to avoid unecessary scrolling
2/It would be convenient if we could select a tech further in the tree, for example jump 3 techs ahead of the last discovered tech in the branch, and the game automatically research all undiscoverd techs in between. Like in another game we all now
Or at least 'shift select' to plan several techs ahead.
