Just sorting my warfare list out .....
if you have a mixed bg of kn and cav, do you get 3 dice (at different poa) per frontage in melee?

No. You cannot get dice for rear ranks behind troops that get 2 dice per front rank base.
Nice try though.

A mixed BG of knights and cav?
I didn't think we could have mixed BGs? Or is it something that's Army List specific?

It is a bit like mixed BG's of spear and bow on foot.
I suspect that the troops in question are Polish knights with strzelcy supports. 1/2 knights, 1/2 cavalry crossbow.
The benefit of the cavalry is that you get to shoot over the knights with crossbows, andthat it is harder to get 1HP3B as the BG is larger and the cavalry are cheaper than the knights.

Well a touch more historical than the DBM version where you can't actually move the cavalry together with the knights without paying an extra PIP to move irregulars short

So are there any other lists/combos with this sort of configuration.

It seems a good deal, doesn't it?
But don't do what I did (in a misguided attempt to get value for points) and use Protected strzelcy in the 2nd rank. This seems great until you lose a front rank base, and then the presence of the Protected base in the front rank tends to cancel out the advantage of the knights' heavy armour. This resulted in my losing the combats vs enemy armoured cavalry - which would be extremely unlikely to occur if the BGs were all knights.
I have gone back to using them in separate BGs. But I think the Protected Average strzelcy mounted crossbowmen are excellent value at 10 points each. (If you use them right).

I think the Poles are the only list so far that mixes knights and cavalry but there are a goodly number that mix lancer cavalry and bow armed cavalry.
Assyrian foot are half spear / swordsmen and half medium foot bow.
Medieval scandanavain foot are half heavy weapons and half crossbow
Byzantines get various combinations of spear and bow
Etc.

I've found the mixed half off spear/half bow isn't a great combo, because they pay for the offensive spearmen but don't get the factors (unless you go 4 deep). Might be a bit better with def spearment as they're cheaper, but you still don't get the factors. I guess if there light spear/sword it might work better?

What army has half Off Sp/half bow? As far as I recall they are all Def Sp.

Re Neil's comment: I think we have had this before. Providing your front rank is not lost, the rear rank bow will fight from the second rank with the same factor as the spearmen in the front. Spear bow is nice but a bit fragile.

Late Achaemenid Persian, for one. The Apple Bearers are half heavy foot Off. Sp. and half medium foot Bw. At least in the army list that I got several months ago.

Yes. I was using Gareth Simon's superbly painted LAP and thought the Apple Bearers to be pretty useless and expensive. So I stuck they way out on a flank as a flank guard and hoped nothing serious would have a go at them.

Well to fulfil their historical role they should be expensive, and their only duty is to hold the enemy up for a few minutes to give Darius a head start.
