We're pleased to announce we are now taking pre-orders for the Field of Glory gaming system and the first 5 companion books.

Field of Glory is a new historical tabletop miniatures gaming system for anyone interested in recreating the battles of Rome, Greece or the Holy Land, among others. This series is intended to give both beginner and expert gamers everything they need to play the battles of ancient and medieval eras on their tabletops. Tested and created by gaming experts, this series includes a rulebook detailing the gaming system, and companion army books which help players select and build their historically accurate army with the relevant units or troop types they want to take onto the field of battle. The striking Field of Glory rulebook includes color coding for easy navigation, clear photographs of miniatures and diagrams (showing rules examples, troop placements, scale considerations and more), detailed Osprey artwork, a comprehensive painting guide, an overview of the history of this world of warfare, organization tables and a background to the men who fought on the ground. Containing two ready to use army lists, this rulebook can either stand alone and be used for immediate gaming, or can be combined with the companion volumes to recreate a more diverse range of conflicts.

If you are new to tabletop miniatures gaming you can find out more details on wikipedia. What this doesn't tell you however is the friendship and fun that can be had while enjoying a good wargame. Then you have the chance to re-live the battle down the pub afterwards!

Edit - If you pre-order from Slitherine you are automatically enrolled for the beta test! Just send your confiirmation mail to jdm@slitherine.co.uk to receive your beta copy of the rules and join in the beta discussions! This offer does not apply to pre-orders from other sources.

Click on the link below the book to pre-order your copy and be one of the first to get playing!

How do you distribute the beta copy of the rules? Download, email attachment, or what? Also, how many army lists are available to the beta testers? Thanks!

The beta rules are personalised & protected word document. You cannot pass it on to anyone else. I'm not sure how many lists are available exactly - does anyone else have any info on that?

There are about 30 lists in the sample army lists, ranging from New Kingdom Egyptian to Ming Chinese.

If you enter a comp you can nominate a few armies your interested in and Simon Hall will send you those specific lists to peruse and make your final selection for the comp.

The beta test rules come as a Word document, without diagrams. There are amendments which are on the web site, but they're not critical to understanding the rules.

does anyone know what kind of turn around time they are getting on preorders and beta versions sent out? It was 5 days since sending preorder confirmation to the emial above. The confirmation process required for customers to engage doesnt give much confidence as to whether the messages are getting through.

Its now been three weeks since sending the confirmation email of the rules preorder. Those preordering gave up an amazon discount for the opportunity to see the beta rules a few months before release. When is the next batch going out?
