feeding bases against an overlap BG

The wording of the rule of this section is not clear for me. Can someone precise me :
" a BG can only expand into contact with a new enemy BG if either of the following apply :
- the new ennemy BG was already fighting as an overlap (this is clear ok)
- the contact does not result in the previously unengaged enemy battle group entering close combat (with the expanding BG) other than as an overlap." And this is the part I am confused with... :?:

In other words, if X is the enemy, fighting against A, B being an overlap; I assume X can feed a base in front of B, and stucking thus B; right ?
What case does describe the second bullet ?

Yes, I believe so.

Don't have my rules to hand so can't help with your 2nd point - sorry.

X can expand into B as it is an overlap, this brings C into contact with X but C is only an overlap so its OK

Like this

AA_C

where B is replaced by a gap samller than a base wdth an expansion by X would bring the unengaged C into contact so is not allowed as C would not be an overlap but in frontal contact

Thank you !

In Phil's example AAB could be different bases in the same BG, too.
