Evade and charge query.

Hi guys and gals

Yesterday Phil and myself played a game of French Ordonnance against Swiss and an odd situation came up.

He charged 2 BG's of my skirmishers with 2 BG's of his knights. The skirmishers evaded through each other with one coming within 4 MU's of one of the charging knights.

The charging knight only rolled a 1 on its VMD so didn't reach the skirmisher but Phil questionned whether it had to make a VMD as a new target had evaded into its charge range hence it should make its normal charge move of 4 MU's.

Any clarification would be good as a ruling in Phil's favour would mean dead skirmishers and the knights being safely out of reach of some pike. A ruling in my favour would mean happy skirmishers and probably dead knights.

I "think" the rules now read if charge targets evade you get a VMD period. But I don't have my rules with me and have been reading other FOG rules of late.

The wording is "The chargers now move their charge move, adjusting the move distance by a VMD if all their charge targets evaded." So, in this case, all of the targets have evaded therefore the knights roll a VMD.

Which is what we agreed on anyway.

Those Xbow armed unprotected LH appearing in front of the charging knights obviously put the fear of god into them, therefore causing them to roll a 1 due to the surprise. Though if the knights had rolled better than 1 they would have caught them in the rear in the front.
