Looking to run a game using an Early Period Viking Army

Are the following correct classifications for the major Troop types:

Huscarls - Heavy Foot, Impact Foot, Swordsmen, Armoured, Average, Undrilled

Raiders - Medium Foot, Impact Foot, Swordsman, Protected, Average, Undrilled

Thanks

Pete

I am afraid we have not given much thought to this yet.

If we decided that the characteristic method of fighting was as a shieldwall, it is unlikely that we would classify the troops as impact foot.

Offensive spearmen might be what we would choose. Note that spearmen are assumed to use swords in melee (though using the Spearmen combat capability), and that Arab foot who also made much use of swords have been classified as Offensive Spearmen. The intention is certainly to classify later Saxon fyrd as Offensive Spearmen.

However, we will need to study the evidence before coming to any conclusion - there simply has not been time to do this as well as the vast amount of work that has been required for the 7 army list books that are already completed or almost completed.

I suspect that Osprey will have a say in what, if anything, comes after the first 7 books - and the earlier armies are relatively speaking a minority interest amongst gamers. Early medieval may be more logical for example.
