Hi everyone

I'm looking at buying a Kofun Nara Japanese and would like to know what figures people have bought before.

Also how do you depict the light spear for the front ronk?

Thanks

Rob

Khurasan look like they do a great range

I don't have a Japanese but I do have a Chinese and I mix up archers with spear and as it is declared when you put the figures down, it doesn't usually provide an issue.

Thanks for the reply Don.

I'd been looking at Khurasan and they sell separate standing shields as well as the army list saying the troops are behind standing shields.

My problem was can you fit 4 figures and a couple of standing shields on a medium foot base?

This would then do for the front rankers if it worked.

The Khurasan ones are really good and paint up great - recommended.
I can bring some to Britcon if you'd like to see some painted up.

Would love to see them at Britcon.

Muz
Is that 'can bring one or two' or, 'am bringing Kofun Nara to Britcon'

Ha, no - not bringing Kofun Nara - still deciding on the balance between way too aggressive, or sponge like and balanced - likely to go the former - can't come all that way and not have a go.!

I think Murray means HE is not bringing Kofun Nara to Britcon.

Remember Muz that those Poms tend to rely on we southern hemisphere types to be impetuous and over stretch so they can pick up a few points in the last 30 minutes of the game. Balanced may be a better bet to frustrate the 'eck out of 'em.

Hi Muz, I'd recommend an army style that you'll enjoy and suits your game. Also, the air conditioning at the venue isn't great so it can be a hot and steamy weekend. Hot weather gear is probably sensible. Or it might be cold and raining. Welcome to Manchester.

One thing to bear in mind is game length and number of games. First game is up to 6 hours, the other five are circa three and a half in a competition of probably 32 players. what this tends to mean is:

- the stronger players tend to meet each other in the later stages and you get a lot of close results between them.
- people get tired by the later stages so tend to make more mistakes.
- an aggressive army can work; one big loss and 5 big wins should be enough to easily win it.
- the first game gcan mean that a slower army can grind the enemy down. In fact 3 big wins and 3 draws could win it

Chances are that you'll experience all of these over the weekend.

Don't forget we will be dropping the worst score so there is scope for having a go(always the best way)although Dave Ruddock would suggest I don't start until almost half my army and generals are dead ,but that's only against him

Don't worry, Muz is a veteran of CanCon, where 30 degree days are common and even 40 degree days during the worst fires in Canberra's history have been felt!

Good luck Muz, and may you roll nothing but 5's.

Talking of which, if you're going to roll nothing but 5's, take some poor unarmoured guys with a stick bow as your army, it will easily win :)

Have fun.

Says the man has worn exactly the same clothes at every wargames tournament for at least the last 10 years. And I mean exactly the same. It is a mystery how they haven't worn out yet.

Clothes only wear out if you wash them. :)

So how does the draw for game 1 work? Is it seeded in any way, or just as two players turn up they are matched up?

Glad you mentioned, as it's a hobby horse of mine.

It's usually seeded. Something around a quarter of people will be designated seeds and they won't play each other in round 1. Other than that, compeltely random - you roll up, put your name forward and you get matched up normally with a person who has also just rolled up.

This approach was used in the days when we had 100 playes in a single competition. The main aim seemed to be that, generally, it meant less 'lucky muppets' at the top of the draw in the middle rounds and more seed on seed action - mostly because they thrashed a non-seed in round 1.

In a 6 round competition of 32 players, however, I don't think seeding is actually needed. There are few enough players that the draw should work itself out naturally. It's manifestly unfair that a seed should get a much easier draw early on. A bit of self fulfilling prohecy perhaps?

I'd be more than happy if this baggage was ditched.
