Who is the strongest swordsmen unit ?
Veterans look like unbeatable en masse .I play on Tribal -but got nasty defeat by Illyrian/Pirates they had 8 veterans I had 3 Veterans and 7 Astinomie and 6 proto-hoplites

I also play on Romans and don't know whom to prefer hastati or therapractoi ?

Veterans are pretty tough, with a little experience. You are developing Iron technology and building a Training Ground in your capital city, right?

Astinomia, eh, they work in the early game, but become very weak by midgame.

As far as the Romans, I could not say. Oddly enough, I've never played as the Romans :)

You should do that in order to make your opinion on hastati-they are somewhat aside unit who trows javelin before charge

My vote goes for veterans, these guys cut my romans into pieces once...

About romans, all their units are OK, they make up for a fun game...I would choose Hastatii

I think 'thureopharoi' I might mispell it is elite light infantry , are stronger then Hastati
Your opinion ?
And how do they perform against veterans -those 'thureopharoi' ?

And how veterans perform against cavalry ?

Well, you're talking Light Infantry versus Heavy Infantry, bro.

The Theo's will win in rough terrain, all other things being equal.

Heavy Infantry of a comparable quality level will win in open terrain, all other things being equal.

It should be so but somehow 'Theos' are very efficient when you meet them
too efficient ...
On serious note they are swordsmen and vets are swordsmen too, right ?
I meant to ask about all sworsmen in game .
Tribal can't pay too much ,due their handicaps, so vets are not that expansive to upkeep,
but very handy to have :)

PS Out of topic terrain is mostly rough in game which why hoplites are ...not efficient ,xcept Spartiades,of course.

I too have noted that the Theo's are hell-on-wheels, even in clear terrain. But do recall that they are a 3rd generation light infantry.

Thracians are 1st gen Lt Inf
Peltastes are 2nd gen Lt Inf

So really to get an accurate comparison, you'd have to match them with 3rd generation Heavy Infantry, which means Elite Hoplites.

vetrans

vetrans are stronger because with the romans they have to throw there javelins first and the vetrans can just smash right through them while they are throwing them and so cause more casualties :D
