Rules Query

Hi ,I've just bought FoG as I'm looking for a good rules set to play Early Feudal .I know that these are well established and generally well though off however I'm finding them hard to get to grips with . Why for instance, if firing at unprotected foot is it a lesser POA to shoot with a crossbow or indeed artillery than with say a slingshot . I would be interested to know the thinking behind this rule .Also if firing at unprotected light foot do you have no POA unless firing with crossbow, firearm or artillery when you seem to have a -POA. Any clarification much appreciated .Thanks

Crossbow Firearm and Arty are slow firing but ignore armour. It doesn't matter what armour foot is wearing, they need 5.

It's a rate of fire issue. The factors for crossbows take into account an average of the whole of the medieval period, from the early simple latch weapons to the later ones with complex mechanisms that had more punching power but fired much less frequently than slings. The same is equally true of artillery, that took a long time to reload.

You could make an argument in the early feudal period that simple latch crossbows should use 'bow' factors not crossbow. For re-enactment games that might give a more accurate result.
