Rommel #3 - Bocage

Lots to say about this one after two playings:

1. I believe that it is almost impossible to kill 50 US units. The best I can do is approach 30.

2. Shermans were not fast moving targets. That should be left to armored cars, Hellcats TDs, half tracks and so on. You might as well rate the T-34 Russian tank as fast moving as well then. Fast moving is for scooters ... Sherman had decent speed but was not going to negate a hit by its speed.

3. ACHs - avoiding 10 losses is next to impossible. Up it to 15 please. Either that or allow the MERGE command to be used.

4. US player never gets anywhere near the rear objectives. Since the Victory Conditions state that the Germans must hold six locations then that means that they have to fight up front. I can hold 5 objectives with no problem. The 6th one is a bit tough. Suggestion: either remove the rear objectives or cancel out the deployment phase and just place the units to the rear, remove the objectives in the US zone and so on. This mission should be a US advance. They rarely get past the main front line in my games.

5. More German armor. I would prefer MkIV Panzers than the Jagdpanzer IVs. What is funny is that the Sherman is killing them at long range with a short barreled 75mm gun. Kind of finding that a bit odd.

I like the map - lets see a mission where more of it gets used. But if this is bocage then lets see a LOT more hedges. I do not have the feeling of Normandy on this map. More like somewhere on the road to Paris.

UI display read correctly. ACH's also report correctly after mission. US Armored car image (not the 3D - the picture) not showing up properly. Is it going to be added eventually?

Is the icon for the M8 Greyhound not appearing? What platform?

PC ... thought I had seen it before too. Again, this is the PICTURE you see in the lower corners of the game screen. Not the 3D icon on the map that is for the unit. Let me know if you want a screen shot and I will email you one.

I played, and won, this scenario two times and I destroyed more than 50 US units every time, the key is counterattack to search and destroy suppressed US units.

I like JgdPz IVs, I lost them only for M4 75mm side shots.

Jagdpanzer IV is based on the PzIV chasis - it just had a bigger gun than the PzIV and no turret and so was easier to produce. PzIV were roughly an equivalent match for the Sherman M4 (75mm). So ignoring the lower profile there isn't a lot of difference in defensive value between a regular PzIV and a JagdPz IV. Also everything armoured seems to have the same range (Even Flak36 and Pak43 AT guns which had huge real-life ranges compared to the 75mm) and are limited to 8 squares. The only difference being the probability of penetration is increased for the bigger guns.

I was able to get all the achievements on this level.
