Panzercorps Special Units

Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to Slitherine for adding the new dimension of special units in the latest 1.20 patch. :D This has given me an excuse to replay the Panzercorps DLC’s to discover these new special units. Personal I think they are great. I understand the purists who don't want the advantages they bring but hey, just hit the disband button. On Field Marshall level they are worth their weight in gold as it frees up valuable prestige points for other uses. Also its great to develop them to have more than three attributes. I currently have one unit with additional Attack, Spotting, Initiative, Movement and Defence. Also one great benefit is that when you start the 42’ 43’ DLC WEST you have nine of these special units to choose your initial core giving you a great advantage to start the DLC with. I have yet to play all the DLC’s so there may be more to discover so I have started this post so players can add on their special units that they have discovered. I’m off to start Afrika Corps now to see if there are any here to find. A great reason to replay these great games.

I think the "spezial heroes" started appearing in AK. Don't forget to inspect the Italian reinforcments, some of them have special heroes attached :D

A lot of info can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=121&t=39382 Some lists are obsolete, as they predate the 1.14 patch.

Do we have a complete list somewhere? The patch notes only mention the heroe's names, not their actual unit type...

Havent seen one. When the new patch comes out I was planning on playing through the GC one last time and if we don't have one by then just post it up.

Would be helpful to plan ones core for a new Grand Campaign

Thats what I was thinking. Not really a big fan of the new special units as I think the heroes are really too powerful but its a new twist that is worth playing once I think.

One can always dismiss them. One thing I might do if I think they're just too much is using them in the scenario that I receive them in, and then disband them again. Whether I want to keep Rudel... dunno. Great hero... but he is probably the biggest Nazi asshole out of all of the heroes so I'm not too sure about having him around...

I like seeing real persons as "heroes" in the game, but the bonus values of them are indeed sometimes really exaggerated. Giving an infantry unit +5 Movement or a tactical bomber +9 Attack and Defense is totally out of balance and plausibility. Simply immature.

I agree, some of them break the game balance and thus are not such a good idea. Plus they use the same graphics (and could have used at least the alternative one for SE units) which is confusing

It's not just the hero bonuses. it's also getting that many units for free. I think adding those heroes was a mistake. having said that, it was the only 'mistake' in game design I've seen so far with all the new stuff in Panzer Corps. Most additions have been fantastic.

Out of curiosity, would you prefer that all these many historical hero-units would be auxiliary instead of core, fighting beside your core only in particular scenarios? Basically, like the Villers-Bocage scenario with Wittmann in GC44W.
Even after tweaking them down with more reasonable stats, I can’t shake the feeling that all my core units with random heroes look so crap next to them. More importantly, gathering all these superheroes with two additional random heroes will first make the game unnecessarily easy and second less fun to play if you start reloading too often, because you don’t want to loose them. It’s simply easier to let go and replace no-name units.

Yeah, that's a good idea!

I'm not a big fan of those units no. Even as auxiliaries they're too powerful. But if they have to be around, I'd rather like to see them as auxiliaries yes.
