Will we ever see a real campaign?

I enjoy the game, and just picked up the COBRA and Blitz expansions, but I feel like the game is really falling short in the campaign area.

Are there any plans to move more toward a campaign similar to Close Combat...I.e..battle groups and dynamic, operational deployments of units.

I think the game has so much potential beyond the current campaign, with its single skirmishes strung together with zero consequences for unit losses.

I was in the same boat as you, tried the Market Garden campaign which uses the carryover feature, but that felt short of my expectations. I have now tried Panzer Corps and I want to use the same mechanic of having a force pool and points that you have to manage on the campaign. I am waiting for next BA update that will let you dynamically control those points.

You can try a couple of campaign mods that I did.

Saving Private Brian - Which has carryover units focusing on the progression of a specific unit

Desert Carryover Campaign - The official campaign that has an initial force selection that you will use during the campaign. With automatic replacements depending on losses and custom difficulty setting until the next patch arrives.

It's something at a % of players reeeeeeaaaalllllyyyy want, but that others would have no interest in. I know JD and Iain are all for it, but making a really good campaign layer is almost a game in itself. Close Combat is a good example where the campaign layer (IMO) got waaay out of hand (we even had people asking if it was possible to just skip the battles as the campaign was game enough!).

Nonetheless, it's on our radar, and there are actually a variety of things in the game (such as the ability to same campaign variables etc) specifically to support such things. I even got partway into integrating a 'battle map' UI control, though I forget what is and is not done.

There are various SP and MP campaign enabling options on the BA2 task list, but much will probably depend on scope and schedule as we move through development.

Cheers

Pip

I want to do something simalir to the GJS 44 Tournaments. Where you manage your "Divisions" (BG'S) and fight battles based on how the Map changes. And your men always carry over. Turns act as "Days" and every day there will be a couple of battles in each day. The AI will shift from defensive to offensive depending on the map. The more men on said area of the Map the more men you get. And for choosing forces A. you can buy them like in regular BA :) but once bought you fight with them for the rest of the game so choose wisely. And once capturing said objectives you get a bonus. Weather also plays a major part. If weather is bad your Air Support is down. If a hill/battery is lost you lose artillery support. Capture a major obejective and you get Rally, Medic, or promotion. It's all here on the main page of JGS 44(Gold Juno Sword).viewtopic.php?f=87&t=38844

Nearly all of this is possible with the current mod capabilities, the hardest one is the non linear campaign. You will have to do this somehow manually, so having for example a set of 10 maps and when starting each the user will select what kind of mission is it. Then with campaign variables we can heavily change by scripting how the mission plays out. With the variable force selection points it will be easier.

Very interesting project, worth looking into it maybe even as a proof of concept for BA2.
