For some reason, whenever I play Panzer Corps, I see a lot of ffdshow audio decoder instances in the task bar. It can end up being dozens of instances if I play for a while. It's as if every sound is requiring its own decoder instance.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Is there a way to fix it?

Careful with reinstalling any ffdshow codec. If the game is working just ignore it.
These non-native codecs are known for disrupting Windows MCI, which is the API used by the game for playing audio.

Okay, so we should just ignore the many instances of ffdshow in the task bar?

They don't appear in the Task Manager's process list, and they disappear when I close Panzer Corps.

That's characteristic of ffdshow.
What harm can it do? The worst you'll have a software crash. But I doubt.
Of course if you uninstall ffdshow, or the codec pack that have installed it, this effect will disappear.
If you're having no crashes, then let it be. That's my suggestion. The less we touch in audio/video codecs the less we will mess the system.

In case anyone else is bothered by the ffdshow icons, I found a way to disable them:

1) run Start / All Programs / ffdshow / Audio decoder configuration
2) select "Tray, dialong & paths" in left menu
3) change "Tray Icons" to "None"
4) click "OK"
5) repeat steps 1-4 for Start / All Programs / ffdshow / Video decoder configuration
