First 20 minutes

I didn't really care for PC games until Civilization 3, and then Alpha Centauri, and after that Civilization 4 and 5. After Civ 5, I also didn't care for Firaxis. As I still hope to play the genre to death, I have high hopes Pandora is more strategic then Firaxis' offerings.

I really liked the old Alpha Centauri, but the AI was *cough lacking. Also, had been strange for me to manipulate the Alpha Centauri workshop to create cheap, but useful vehicles (which the AI never created), e.g. a vehicle chassis with the strongest armor, weakest weapons, and police methods upgrade. How these pathetic vehicles, garrisoned in my cities, could defeat hovertanks with the strongest weapon was always beyond me.

Ultimately, I stopped playing Alpha Centauri because it seemed that whichever faction got to the Monsoon Jungle first usually won.

In the first 20 minutes, I couldn't find any information on how Pandora resolves combat. Anyway, it was interesting to see the aliens attacking from 2 squares away, and ganging up on my poor explorer, and the other known faction then demanding tribute next turn due to my weakened military. I like the level at which Pandora's AI operates.

My one little peeve was that I hoped for more detailed information from the tech tree. I can mostly guess from the tech names, but it would be nice to have a detailed popup of the benefits of the building, etc. you will be able to construct after you learn the tech. Many Civ games have had this.

BTW, the random tech tree is really nice.

Thanks.

You can see the benefits of the tech when you hover over the icon on the right side of the tech. Took me a while to figure that out.
