Not required to conform to permit a Flank attack

Had a situation where my opponent would have had to conform after impact. i.e. at beginning of maneuver phase.
We both recalled there was a rule that said something to the effect you didn't have to conform if the conform would put you into a flank attack.
We couldn't find it. Anyone know where it was or did we mis-remember?

P77 of mine Dan.
A BG that did not charge this move is not required to conform if doing so will expose it to a flank or rear charge by an enemy BG next turn (unless that flank or rear charge was possible even if it did not conform).

Sorry to interfere, but I'd like to clarify that rule.If hazelbark's opponent made a charge and then it is his (the opponent's) manouvre phase then according to the rule he has to conform even if he will be flank charged on the next impact phase by hazelbark. The rule says that the non-charging BG is not required to conform, not the charging one.Am I misunderstanding something? -Harry

Yes, that's the normal situation. However it is the player whose turn it is that has to conform. So you get situations where:
1) Your opponent contacts one of your BGs during pursuit in their turn. In this case Impact is fought at the start of your turn and then your BG would normally move to conform as it is your turn.
2) Your opponent charges during his turn but cannot conform (e.g. due to other BGs being in the way). The melee continues into your turn and your BG would then conform if things had moved that would allow it.
In both of these cases it's your obligation to conform and the rule about not being required to if you did not charge this turn and conforming would expose you to a flank charge applies.

That's right Kevin. You described perfectly the aplication of the rule.It protects the non-charging player from a potential trap when the conforming situation for a variety of reason becomes his obligation.
