Hi Alasdair,

Congratulations on organising an excellent competition, and on winning it of course!

Clearly, shooting one of your own side in the foot is the way to go in team competitions.

Several points to make for next year:

1) Can someone please borrow the BHGS tablecloths? I hate playing on that carpet stuff!

2) The reduction in game time to three hours seems to have resulted in a higher than usual number of draws (I can't actually see all the results on this machine). Maybe we should consider using preset terrain as in the Southern League. Downside of this would be that Team Alasdair wouldn't be able to hog one set of tables. :)

3) I feel there's a strong case for including at least one of the West European wars (ECW 30YW WoLA). Partly because they represent most people's understanding of pike and shot warfare and partly to reduce the requirement to paint up new armies.

4) It might be worthwhile looking at some variation in APs between the themes to give a bit more variety.

5) Sort out your geography - Mexico, Arizona and New Mexico are all in North America!

6) Seems to me that periods one and two should be a linked choice - either Dutch Independence AND Muscovites, or Great North War AND Formation of the Kingdom. Otherwise we might end up with two cavalry themes and you'd then have to play two games at a time.

7) On period 3 I think the American option should be the whole of both continents in the 16th century. This avoids the strange redefinition of north and south.

8 ) Also on period 3, why exclude the Ottomans from the African option? A bit like the 30YW without Swedes. And why miss the chance to include the Trastamara Spanish and Tangiers English?

Maybe we should consider using preset terrain as in the Southern League. Downside of this would be that Team Alasdair wouldn't be able to hog one set of tables. :) We played on average 3 hours 7 minutes (random time 0-15minutes but I rolled low all weekend

3) I feel there's a strong case for including at least one of the West European wars (ECW 30YW WoLA). Partly because they represent most people's understanding of pike and shot warfare and partly to reduce the requirement to paint up new armies.I do agree but I thought the Dutch one plus Great North war might be near enough but am happy to look at others was just trying to be a bit different, with Late Tercios making an appearance rather than basic P & S

4) It might be worthwhile looking at some variation in APs between the themes to give a bit more variety.

5) Sort out your geography - Mexico, Arizona and New Mexico are all in North America! You are absolutely right

6) Seems to me that periods one and two should be a linked choice - either Dutch Independence AND Muscovites, or Great North War AND Formation of the Kingdom. Otherwise we might end up with two cavalry themes and you'd then have to play two games at a time. Maybe

7) On period 3 I think the American option should be the whole of both continents in the 16th century. This avoids the strange redefinition of north and south. you are right, will do so

8 ) Also on period 3, why exclude the Ottomans from the African option? A bit like the 30YW without Swedes. And why miss the chance to include the Trastamara Spanish and Tangiers English?Again right all in probably should include Caroline Imperialist option in africa[/col

Thanks a lot, feel free to keep making suggestions but please also say what are your favourite periods

Taking the points raised by Dave I would add my following comments: -

1) There are members of the BHGS at the competition. They should be able to sort out the cloths. alternatively we could bring our own cloths as per Usk.

2) Agree the reduction to 3 hours caused more draws. I would have achieved at least two complete destructions of my opponent armies in another 30 minutes.

3) Agree we need a classic pike and shot period.

4) I am happy to have a variation in points between periods.

6) There is a danger as Dave points out of having two periods with Polish armies or English 15th century armies.

7) all of America

8) Agree with Dave

For me I'd like to see

1. 25/28mm Wars of Religion 1640-1650

2. East Europe 15mm 1500-1540

3. Africa (of course)

Trouble is I'd like to play in all 3 at the same time!

I like the idea of 1 of the themes being 25/28mm. Though probably with a bit of a wider date, say 1618 to 1648.

cheers

Hi

not a 25mm expert but to play 25mm would be about 650 points on a 6 by 4 table, does a game of that size last 3 hour plus

cheers

Hi Everyone

stick to 15mm this year, all games 3 hours 15 minutes so slightly longer, amended periods above so three choices in line with Dave's suggestions and added a few extra armies, so get voting and let me know either on the forum or by email as some of you have already done

cheers

Alasdair

Way too many points for a 6 x 4, just going to end up with lots of Swiss.

650 or even 700 points as a maximum.

As to period, how about ECW, plentry of 25/28mm armies out there.
