Can Irregular Light Cavalry provide rear support?

Rule Page 10 under Cavalry "Irregular Light Cavalry in any formation are as considered to be skirmishers for both movement and combat"

Which implies they can be in other formations.

Rules Page 17 top left coloum first bullet point "The supporting unit cannot be in Skirmish formation"

Is this correct or should it say skirmishers? (The rules generally refer to skirmishers rather than units in skirmish formation)
The two points together imply irrgular light cavalry not in skirmish formation while considered skirmishers can provide rear support when not in skirmish formation.

I assume you mean page 57?

The top left bullet point only concerns infantry and artillery. It says that only infantry can provide rear support to infantry or artillery, and the supporting unit cannot be in skirmish formation. So no cavalry can rear support infantry or artillery.

The 2nd bullet point says that cavalry can only receive rear support from other cavalry - no qualification regarding skirmishers.
Therefore cossacks can provide rear support to cavalry but not to infantry or artillery.

It may also be worth mentioning that cossacks can provide flank support to any troops (see page 56).

Cheers
Brett

Providing support to other cavalry units is one of the best uses for cossacks.
