Routers and bursting through

Had a slightly odd situation in a game on Monday

Code: Select all

LLAASSS
LLAA

A is an enemy BG of auxilia facing left, S is a fragmented BG of light foot archers facing up, L are my lancers facing right and C are my cavalry facing up. The auxilia have one base fighting my cavalry.

The auxilia broke and needed to rout 3 MU, they bisect the angle of the two enemies they are facing so rout at 45 degrees.

The questions is:
* When you rout bisecting and angle where do you measure the move from

We couldn't find any way that the routhers would not hit the light foot so it seems they are forced to break through them, are placed on the far side and then the light foot also rout.

Does that seem correct?

This isn't clearly defined in the rules. I suspect it will become something of a grey area like moving spontaneous advances in DBM.

We tried not to get into the minutiae of this sort of thing in the rule book, to avoid putting off neophytes.

Some tournament clarification may be required on the web page. Suggestions for possible wording gratefully received.

That looks correct to me.

I thought we agreed that since they did not clear the bases of the LF BG behind then they were destroyed?

Since the last post-Britcon amendments, they can pass right through a BG they are currently bursting through at the end of their move distance, provided there is room beyond. If not, they are destroyed.

“A battle group burst through by friendly evaders or routers drops one cohesion level:
o Move the evading or routing battle group to the full extent of its move. If its move does not completely clear all friends, it is placed beyond any battle group(s) it is currently bursting through if there is room for it beyond, otherwise it is destroyed and removed from the table. No cohesion test is taken for friends seeing this.”
