Core units vanished!

I seem to be missing some core units that were not deployed in the previous scenario.
Specifically, I left 2 recon units on the sidelines for the scenario right before the Australians joined (forgot the name, sorry). Now I can't find them in the deployment phase of the next scenario. Where did they go? Poof!
