Not really - it's a bit painful to use so we did not release it.

Sorry to hear this because as a huge fan of Slitherine's games I've enjoyed untold hours of gametime with Spartan/GOT. In fact I may be your best customer as I've found the games so addictive I'm forced to delete them from my hard drive, only to buy one of them again a few months later. Seriously, I've done this like six times. With all the available nations, Spartan has terrific re-playability, but being able to create new maps would be FANTASTIC.
Thanks for the great games.

Thanks - we are glad you like it so much!
You can do a certain amount of editing in the text files but it's not too user friendly.

I started to reply here, but as per my usual
modus operandi, it soon got rather lengthy.
So I decided that if I was going to write an essay on the subject, I should post it in
its own thread, with a clear and descriptive title.

Many game publishers are now boosting revenues by periodically releasing new maps for purchase. Having done this with the GoT release for Spartan, how about offering Spartan fans the chance to buy some new maps for say $15-$20? If Slitherine's resources are already allocated to other projects (Legion II, perhaps?), maybe the company could outsource the maps to one or more of the modders who post here who are familiar with the coding.

It's a lot more complex than it sounds so its not very likely to happen. This kind of thing needs to be planned in from the start to make if feasible.
