This is something I'm a bit unclear on, how do you handle limbering and unlimbering artillery that's attached to a non artillery unit, or do you even need to? Does it just move as though it were the same base type as the unit it's attached to?

Artillery attachments don't limber/unlimber. They just move along with their parent unit.
