Did you tweak moraletools in v2.11?

Guys, Question on moraletools... Did you tweak it for v2.10/11/12?
I'm fighting versus a Pak40, in a bunker... I suppressed it down to -2 morale, with fire from tanks and mortars, but next turn it's back to 50 morale (presumably my opponent used a rally bonus), so he then kills one of my tanks and gets promoted to morale 75... so I re-mortar it back down to morale 10... but again next turn it's recovered to 51 and firing again... How is that possible? He can't have two rally bonuses immediately after one another, so somehow it's recovered >+40 morale, despite being heavily mortared by multiple positions... Any ideas?

I have also seen this,...
I see this only when troops are in a bunker. It was like they got a morale boost for being in there.
I believe I saw it, only in one of the Husky scenarios. I think the Bridge scenario. (Can't think of the name)

Nothing changed with regards to morale, so it must just have been an odd set of conditions.
Cheers

Is it possible, that your opponent promoted the unit?

Good suggestion DK... But I think promote only adds +25 so shouldn't have pushed either 'victim'>50 morale... Also, I don't think the Ouistreham MP included promote, but if it does, that might be involved in what's happening... Will check. Thanks for the tip!

In the situation you described, the net morale effect on the Pak40 since the beginning of its previous turn was not negative, so it would have automatically recovered some morale at the start of its turn. This behaviour is unchanged.

Thanks Andew,
So... If a unit has <50 morale,
and we fire at it, but don't reduce its morale below zero, it
can still gain morale?
I may have misunderstood Iain's post of June'12...

The way morale works is that a unit will not recover morale if it loses morale this turn.
Make sure you are continually hitting it with something such as a mortar, airstrike, artillery, priest etc. Once its suppressed you want to keep it that way if at all possible. Don't let it kill anything if you can avoid it - the extra 25-50 morale will make them extremely tough to deal with. Once suppressed you can take out the supporting units or drive up behind it and shoot at point blank range. Your Hellcats are ideal for this.
I read this as
a unit will not recover morale if it loses morale... Getting the target below zero morale was unnecessary... Did I get this completely wrong?

This is correct, but it is the total morale change on the turn that determines this. So in this case, suppressing it by 65 points did not prevent the recovery because it had already gained 77 in the turn.

Aha! Oh, I get it... Thanks Andrew
Rallying a unit automatically adds +50 morale to the unit, during the turn that it is rallied... but so long as the enemy do not re-suppress it by at least 50 morale points during that same turn,
then it's guaranteed to get a second morale rise during following turn too...even if it comes under fire... Did I understand correctly...?
Wow, rally is REALLY powerful... I guess I hadn't realised quite how powerful it was... Lesson learned!

I think Rally brings your morale back to 50 no matter how low it was before.
This brings me to another question. Rallied units can normaly fire the turn they got rallied - but mortars dont. Is this a bug or was it intended?

Bombard attacks consume the shooter's max AP. Since Rally doesn't immediately restore AP, it is consistent (to some degree) that Bombard would not be available until the next turn.

Good point DK...
Rally adds +50 to morale but if morale was negative before, it will always get pushed back to +50... So, to use an extreme example, a unit with -99 morale, that is rallied, gains +149 morale back to +50...
So, unless your enemy can knock 150 morale points off that unit in one turn (or kill it), it's guaranteed to get another approximately +40 morale the following turn... Potentailly taking its morale from -99 to +90 in two turns...
Now that's very useful to know!!

Lessons learned...
Rally is very strong
Rally used on morale crushed units, in bunkers, is extremely strong
If you don't have LOS on enemy units in bunkers don't assume bombardment has had any effect (rally can resurrect them from -99 to +90 in two turns). Scouts essential

Thanks for the explanation. I have to remember this. I wasted "Rally! too often on my mortars.
