a situation arose in the game im playing at the moment my mate has a bg of LC and they impacted my guns from reading the rules the guns are captured and he get 2 attrition points for them but can he use them? if i want too recapture them and use them i have them a BG of pike or shot (to get the attrition point back can i use say a cav BG)?

He can't use them unless he moves a suitable foot BG (e.g. Pike and shot) into contact with them.

You can recapture them with cavalry, but you can't shoot them again unless you move a foot BG to re-crew them. They will still get the - POA for having been captured.

just had a thought where dose the crew come from(do you lose a base from the pike or shot BG)

If you recapture guns the numbers of crew required are way below what is represented by a base so you don't have to lose any bases to achieve this.
The - POA when shooting with recaptured guns represents the "amateurs" now trying their hands at being artillerymen(I think).
