I am sure that several people asked for FoG:R to be included and as you can see the Games Expo people were happy to oblige. It would be nice if we could get a few more entries guys.

I will admit to being one of the people that asked Hammy to include this and I have now sorted out my entry!

If you haven't been before, Games Expo is a fun day out and the short form competition is a nice change from the norm.

So, Hammy, how many are we to date? I can't see any stats on the website.

BTW, people need to know that they have to book both entry to the show (£8) as well as to the FoGR comp (£8). Schoolboy error on my part there.

Also, not a good idea to put the thread in this top box as it is harder to find amidst all the guff about panzers. Whatever they are

The Expo website shows the number of places available for each tournament and the limit for it, so by my reckoning we're up to 5 so far. But I agree about all the Panzer stuff, that really is starting to become a pain to wade through.

I see we're up to 7 now. Who else is doing this? Is there any chance of agreeing any kind of theme?

I've no problem with a theme, but wouldn't everyone who's signed up already have to approve it?

Dave

PS I'd quite like to try a War of the League of Augsburg theme.

Yes, if we know who they are we can discuss it amongst ourselves and decide whether it's viable. There's you, Simon and me. Plus four others at the moment who we don't know.

Hi All
Yes I am one of those four

Happy with a theme as long as its European and musket based. Not namby pamby pikes. So ECW, TYW, War of Augsberg etc.

Also I was talking to Hammy about reducing flanks to 10" as the table width has reduced. WHat do you think.

I've not felt it necessary to restrict the flank sector as on the narrower table it's easier to block a flank with a single piece of terrain.

Actually I think its harder as you have less terrain and they need to be smaller or they stand a major chance of not fitting.
Making it harder not easier

The way we've played it is that the compulsory piece goes on whatever, so if you take a large piece you can pretty much block 1 flank even if you roll a 1 or 2.

The compulsary will always go on whatever as there is a -1 to move it, meaning it can never be removed (The only posibility is if the first player rolls a 5 or 6 and the next player rolls the reverse could it fail to be put on). But if you roll 5-6 then it goes in the middle, if it fits as you only have 10" depth to deal with in order to place it so it will normally have to be placed across the table covering a large amount of frontage, and even if you roll 1-4 then on a 4-6 it gets moved, so can move from the flank 6" or 12" depending on the roll, therefore you only have 1 in 3 chance with the compulsary piece on blocking a flank, and you could end up with a 1 in 3 chance that the large piece is in the middle of the table blocking everything and 1-3 its in from the flank 6".

This is where we've always played that it goes on whatever, as near to legally as possible.

Interesting debate, I was intending mailing all the players who had entered but so far have been sadly remiss in doing that :(

I am far from an expert on the way FoG:R works on the smaller table. What I can say is that there do not seem to have been issues when it has been run in this format previously and IIRC Kevin played in both the other comps with the same format.

The good news is that we have now got 8 players entered, there is a chance we could end up using all the available slots.

Yes, I've played 3 comps in this format and I don't think there's a need to reduce the flank sectors.

As half of those who have entered have expressed a preference for a theme, is there any chance of doing one? Something like armies from WoR or DaG would probably be easy for most people and in line with the preferences stated.

When we run the Oxford FOG R pairs last year we reduced the flank to 9" with 700 point armies. As far as I can remember not one complained.

There is still one place left in the comp, the bookings system will go offline tonight so get those last minute entries in today if you can.

I believe that it is possible to pay on the door but it would be best if people can pre-book.
