GS v2.20 is near completed regardingfunctionality changes. Then testing will have to begin. While waiting for Slitherine to have time to make a new installer we decided to make some chrome changes for the GS message boxes. The message boxes for events (not turn by turn feedback) will be changed to show an image and flags of countries involved in the image.

We've just started collecting images, but hope to get all the events converted soon.

Here are some examples.

Case White (invasion of Poland) in September 1939:

Eben Emael event in Spring 1940:

Pearl Harbor in December 1941:

It looks good. More modern. How is an attack on Poland "a negative" for the UK and France, though?

Because they were affected by a DoW. Axis invasion of Poland didn't just make Poland suffer, but UK and France had to DOW Germany because of it.

So we flag those countries who are directly involved in the event. Not those who benefit or lose indirectly. E. g. all events that are bad for Germany are good for ALL Allied powers, but we only show those who actively contributed.

I might want to change the name positive and negative. I tried with active and passive, but that didn't sound right either. Winner or loser can't be used either.

The countries on the left side are the countries instigating the event. The countries on the right side are those who were the intended victims of the even (if any). If we can find single words for each of these then I can replace positive and negative.

Case Yellow is a border event when it comes to flagging. Germany intended only Poland to be the victim. They didn't want to DOW France and UK. That France and UK decided to not tolerate the invasion and joined the Allies was something Hitler didn't anticipate. So it will be right whether or not add UK and France to the negative side for the event.

Maybe just remove the labels altogether? I think that the people who are playing this game are smart enough to figure what these flags mean.

Originator and Affects seem like good possibilities

I think Initiator and Affecs can maybe be good solutions.

The new event info screens look nice, my only beef with the old screens was that the font was too large for the little box so that we couldn't read the whole message in some instances, actually too many instances. As long as I can read the whole message I'm not too interested in the pretty pictures.

Most will be. Those without are just information like convoys delivering etc. We have even added operations messages like Sealion, Overlord, Husky etc. Not all, but some of the most important ones.

Yes, that is the intention. Most of them are done already.

It is great news for the Chinese fans whose English is not good enough to understand the messages !

Thanks Borger ! :)
