Where do I find rankings and stats for the games I have played?

Until the slithery ones automate it, you're best to keep track of these yourself.

You can go back through 'completed games' to see how many you've won and lost and against whom, but anything more and you have the right and privilege of recording any detail you want whatsoever - yourself. I used to keep a spreadsheet but funnily enough I lost interest. Particularly when my win:loss record peaked at only 55:45 :(

But I can't even find out which games I have won or lost - how do I find that out?

Go to your completed games tab, then select each game, one by one, and BA will re-run the last turn and the result...
I don't believe there's a faster way?

all seems a very long-winded process. Slitherine has the rankings - why not make ladders and stats available for all? Seems like a huge oversight to me :(

If you just want to know where you fit in the Grand Scheme of things, join a tourney. There are several great ones on the forum. Most keep detailed win/lose stats and come out with a league table of ranks... Last game, JT above made Lt Col... Yours truly, a mere Maj, lol...

Btw JT, no right thinking casino would ever let you grace it's doors with a 55% guaranteed win rate... And it's a lot better than I managed in Hillman, and I designed the darned map, lol...

GL, Its because you spend all your time designing and fixing. Not that I'm complaining mind you....

The tourney system is a good way to figure where you stand. Go join one and you'll quickly get a sense of where your skill level is compared to others.

It absolutely is. It's on our task list, but unfortunately it is a very very long list :(. We tend to focus on things in the game itself as we know (for instance) that a proportion of the player base actively wants to be able to opt OUT of any rankings or stats, so it's more work for a reduced % of the player base.

We have carved out some specific schedule time in BA2 for better rankings and stats, so hopefully things will be improved then.

Cheers

Pip

Cool! If you add ranking stats to BA2, please exclude the Hotseat games...
It would suck if all of the games that I lose against myself count against me, lol...

Part of the problem is, what stats? Win:lose is obvious, but what if you want winning as allied vs other? Or most/least successful scenario? Or against particular opponents? Or exclude hot seat games?

It can all be done, but given limited resources, I personally would rather have Slitherine focus on in-game improvements.

I think that the game is great but without stats there is nothing to work towards. Each little scenario on it's own is fun but where is the broader goal, very short-sighted indeed. I like to try a climb a ladder or improve my won/loss ratio - or just beat my buddy more than he beats me. Seriously, am I the only one who feels strongly about this?

Hey Ashcloud,

Yup we all agree with you that ranks would be nice. But JT has a point that every map is very different, so, for example, playing Mlazar or Hidde is not the same as playing, say, me... M or H would cane you (probably ;-)).

If you want something to work to, or a tough ladder to climb, join a Tourney! There are LOTS of good ones open right now. Maps are hugely varied in difficulty of map, experience of opponents, etc. You'll quickly figure out where you fit in the Grand Scheme of Things... and you'll very probably earn a rank too...

I will look into it - who runs the tournaments?

Anyone can... Just pick a map and post a thread explaining your Tourney and the level of opponents that you're looking for...

Alternatively, to join somebody else's... GWSU, Arcticpost, JohnTindall, JonCorcuera, Mansoeren, Enric & GottaLove88s all have tourneys up...

Click into the Leagues & Tournaments thread here -> viewforum.php?f=115

And volunteer, soldier!

Nope,..you're not the only one.
I (as well as others) have posted this very question.
In my opinion,..this isn't a FPS game where everyone dies more times than win.
This is a strategy game that demands stats.
Yes,..joining a tournie is okay,..but a tournie is only as good as the person keeping the stats and the people playing.
If you get 5 people to play, but 2 of them stop showing up,..heck even if one person gives up,..the tournie is ruined.

Yeah!! That would be awesome! Please devote a whole Sprint to working this out. :D

Where do you get the information that "a proportion of the player base actively wants to be able to opt OUT of any rankings or stats"???
Seriously? I've never seen anyone say that on the Forum,....quite the contrary, I've seen people ask for stats on the Forum.

Wouldn't it be easy (sure easy thing for me to say) to have a check box in Options if you want to Opt out.
But then again,..I don't think this is even necessary.

There are 2 ways to the stats can be reported:
A. All games are recorded as either a Win or a Loss irrespective of the scenario. (This is good,..and better than what's currently available)
B. Games are recorded as a Win or Loss by scenario played. (This is the way to go!!)

There are 2 ways stats can be storred:
1. Stats are stored on Slitherine servers.
2. Stats are maintained on the device of the person playing.

As for Option 1: I don't think this make sense, unless players want "visible to all" bragging rights. As for me,...I don't think I'd want everyone to know how much time I use playing BA,...nor do I want my wife to find out. So an "opt out" box should be available.

Option 2: Seems to alleviate the problem of someone not wanting their stats visible to all, and would be awesome to have those kind of records available.

So if I had a development enhancement request, I'd take option B2.

Ash, the other advantage, I think to joining a tourney are the different types of players you find yourself matched up against. There are some players where I play them fairly competently, win some lose some, and others where I am soundly, and even embarrassingly destroyed each time I play them. Its helping me pick out weaknesses in my game play.

The funny thing about stats is if I play GL or JT I might be a 40% of the time winner, if I play gort I'd be a 0% of the time winner. You might find it to be the opposite for you. So I keep personal stats of each game. Opponent played, was I Allied or German, win or lose, and I have an internal ranking of who I play by looking at their record and who they played where that info is available (like in a tourney), did I have unit superiority, etc. Win/loss is great but this helps me realize and work on what I need to do to improve and in what areas, and who I need to play to work on those areas. Not to be long winded but if I make a dumb mistake then GL is the master of catching me in it, so it helps me work on not making dumb mistakes; I'm not good at responding to aggressive players so playing someone who is aggressive helps me there. I look for players who will beat me soundly because I think I learn more either by losing or almost losing. Ranks and stats are great but its hard to get much beyond the win/loss column for how you stack up against others.

After all of that, I like the idea of stats too. :D

If you're looking for a challenge... Play Enric.

Most players, I can eke out a 40-80% win rate... Versus Enric, nada... The man is a natural killer (and he designs pretty neat scenarios too! ;-))

I agree, not everything is in a win/loss stat - we would also need some kind of ELO situation.
